Day 31 (Wed - Lifeguard Training Day 3)
It's the 3rd day of the lifeguard course...the whole morning was spent watching videos in the training room...videos on scanning, rotation and vigilance was shown to us...there's this video on a real life drowning incident that happened some years back in Louisiana and the whole scenario was recorded down by someone's video cam at the scene...my hair really stand aft watching this video...a 12 year old literally died in the hands of the on-duty lifeguards...they only realised his motionless body aft some time and for a good whole 20min...did not evacuate him out of the pool to perform CPR on him...by the time 911 arrived...it was too late too little...really spine-chilling...felt a little bit guilty for not putting my 100% concentration scanning the pool at times...
High standards to live up to at raging waters morey's pier...Denise our big boss told us that raging waters has been awarded the platinum award for safety for 9 years in a row and is gunning for a 10th yr this season...the only waterpark in the whole of USA to do it!! can u believe it...I am actually lifeguarding one of the safest waterpark in the whole of the States...what a reputation to live up to seriously dun wanna be part of the batch that failed to achieve the award for the 10th year...
aftnoon was pretty much spent on water skills...3 hours to be exact...reviewed all the active skills, vicegrip to deal with spinal injury guests, mask placement in water and extracation - a team effort to evacuate the victim asap and safely out of the water...later half the aftnoon was spent on child CPR before John aka Tom Hanks gave a 1-hour briefing on the rules and regulations of an associate of the waterpark...wah damn boring...closed my eyes with my cap and shades providing good cover...the whole damn thing ended past 7 plus...the latest time to go back for the whole wk so far...
